Volunteers donate their time in many ways, helping out as ushers, providing general office assistance, assisting at CostumeRentals, working in the Guthrie Store, and assisting with special events. Guthrie volunteers are fortunate to recieve a flexible perks program that includes opportunities to recieve complimentary tickets to Guthrie performances, complimentary Guthrie tours, discounts in the Guthrie Store and on Guthrie sampler classes and more. Development Volunteer
Event Volunteer
As needed throughout the year, for opening nights, donor events and activities. The Development Department seeks personable, friendly and helpful volunteers to assist with events throughout the year. In this role, volunteers will become part of a team of Development Event Volunteers, who are responsible for greeting and welcoming guests. Requirements: self motivated, professional demeanor, ability to positively interact with VIP level guests, upbeat attitude, ability to move about the building. Hours are generally weekday and weekend evenings and weekend days.
Lounge Host
The lounge host serves as ambassador to Tyrone Guthrie Circle patrons who visit a private lounge during performance intermissions. In this role, the volunteer will open, close, and manage the lounge. Opening the lounge will include: making coffee, pouring wine, setting out snacks. Managing the lounge will include greeting patrons and offering them snacks and beverages. Closing the lounge will include clean up and restoring supplies. Requirements: professional and pleasant demeanor, good discretion and decision making skills, ability to lift up to 35 lbs., ability to manage multiple priorities in a calm efficient manner; service/hospitality industry experience helpful. Hours are generally evenings Tuesday - Sunday. Some day shifts available Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Occasional other weekday shifts.
Front of House Volunteer
Door Opener-Greeter
Become a friendly Door Opener-Greeter. The Door Opener-Greeter opens the door and greets patrons as they arrive at the Guthrie prior to our shows. Requirements: ability to stand for the bulk of a 2 hour shift (with breaks), friendly, personable, outgoing. Shifts available Tuesday - Sunday evenings. Weekend days and some Wednesday days.
Usher
This is a terrific opportunity for folks who enjoy being in a busy, thriving artistic environment. Duities may include: greeting and directing patrons, checking tickets, handing out programs, and seating patrons. Matinee and evening positions available, especially seeking volunteers available to volunteer for weekend shifts. Requirements: positive, friendly demeanor, upbeat attitude; ability to thrive in a busy environment and positively interact with a wide range of people.
Backstage Tour Assistant
This is a great opportunity for friendly folks, who want to learn more about the Guthrie, enjoy being on their feet and excel at ineracting with a wide range of people. The Tour Assistant helps the Guthrie tour Guide by following the 45 minute backstage tour as it moves through the building and keeps all the tour patrons moving and keeping up with the group. Depending on the tour, the Tour Assistant may be called upon to assist a visitor using a wheelchari or walker. Shifts are generally 1-2 hours mornings Monday - Sunday between the hours of 9:00 AM and Noon. Occasional evening and afternoon shifts become available from time to time. Requirements: positive, friendly demeanor, upbeat attitude; ability to thrive in a busy environment and positively interact with a wide range of people; ability to be on one's feet for 45 plus minutes for the duration of the tour and the ability to climb stairs.
Hospitality Volunteer
Tech Dinner Team
The Guthrie seeks helpful, friendly volunteers who enjoy cooking and entertaining to become a part of the tech dinner team. In this role, volunteers act as a catering crew and provide and serve meals to Guthrie casts and crews. Volunteers help with set up, serving and clean up. Requirements: service/hospitality industry interest or experience; friendly, professional, personable and reliable. Evening shifts.
